Default Some ?'s regarding a future purchase

Ok, in the future (meaning about a year) I am going to purchase an A4 for my Fiance (I am getting an Rx8!!) I am thinking about getting a 2002-03 A4 (she wants an Audi) and I have never driven that model. I have driven a 2.8 (earlier model) and a 1.8T (earlier model). The 1.8T's engine was quite rough in my opinion while the V6 was alot smoother. Did Audi improve how the 1.8T feels in the 2002 model as opposed to the 2001 model at all? I do live in Colorado so the Turbo would be nice, but the 6 was just so much more refined. She is not into modding or anything so the fact that the 1.8 has a million more options for mods really makes no difference. Another question is how are the clutches on these (she seems to burn through clutches at an insane rate). I hesitate getting an auto due to driving in the mountains here, auto's just plain suck. Anyone from Colorado have an auto have any opinions on that? Is there a good site anyone can recommend with more info on the 2002-03 models of this car, I don't mind reading up on it for more knowledge. I have done a couple searches here for the car, however all the 1.8T vs 3.0 threads I come across only talk about mods, so they are not so helpful. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me. I am sure to have a million more questions in the coming months, as the time nears for the purchase.

Just FYI I am not able to go test drive any as I am currently in Iraq, hence the questions about the engine refinement.

to 3.0 is definately the better choice for her i think. it seems real reliable and the clutch i just like any car, how you treat it. they seem pretty tuff as i drive my car harder than i should alot of the time.
