Sport Package Question...
what's this about the dealer paying for a new engine if the problem was oil sludge?
thats the one thing i'm afraid about in my new car is the engine seizing or blowing up because of sludge...and then having to pay for it

I thought it was all ECU too. So the K03 in an 01 is different than the K03 in all previous year A4s???
Also, is it true what he is saying: All pre 01 A4s have no VVT???
I am not saying he is wrong, just that I was unaware and learned something new today if he is right. I would like to see a supporting post or two.

I just re-read this and noticed Belligerenceâ„¢ cleared everything up by saying that it's not an ECU thing and indeed it an entirely different turbo. Funny because I just called the dealership and they said it was an Audi ECU upgrade. So the Sport does have an engine mod and it's not a remapping. It's a physically bigger Turbo.

and yes, all pre-2001 A4's with the 1.8T are non-VVT.
Cool thanks Chris, I'm still a bit unclear but that's nothing new.
For anyone that ever gets screwed with oil sludge I suggest calling Audi of America yourself. The dealership told me Audi would not cover it (you need every oil change receipt from the cars history's and it has to show that you changed the oil regularly) I called Audi of America and they agreed to put in a new engine, turbo etc, etc.

at least you got everything fixed for free, thats all that really matters, if u want to get the chip then go for it, will really be a difference in what you perceive going from porsche to audi
Curious question...
While you are under original warranty Audi only changes the oil every 10k miles. I have 43k miles on my car. If were to have a sludge problem tomorrow would Audi still warranty the work since I only got an oil change every 10k miles? The only oil changes I've ever had is at my 10k service appointments since it's part of the included maitenance and that's what they supposedly recommend during the warranty period.
