No ive been searching all night becuase if what he says is true (at least for the majority) i would throw some lowering springs on my stock shocks in a heartbeat. I came accross at least 6 threads of people speaking from personal experience about their stock shocks getting blown out within a year of putting lowering springs on ranging from 1.5"-2.5" drops. I dont have links to provide, but just search on "lowering springs" or "race springs" and youll come accross em. Im sure how long they last depends on your driving habits and quality of roads you drive on... So depending on who you are and where you live proabably has a lot to do with it. I used to belong to a nissan forums group and people were always complaining about blowing up their stock shocks with lowering springs within 6 months. I think for the majority its just a ticking timebomb, for others it is luck?
I can say H&R race spring work great with Sport shocks on every day roads and even better on the track. I use my car has a every day car 16 mile round trip every day with more at the weekend 25% of my journey is speed humps and the rest OK roads.

I agree I see no reason why the shocks should blow because of springs the only problem I see as stated with my old 2.8 none sport shock set-up is that the shocks don't pick-up the slow dips in the road too well because the springs are stiffer and don't compress as much so will not allow the shocks to dampen the bouncing, but sport shock are geared for a harder spring and so by fitting the Race springs the shocks find it a lot more easier to deal with movement of the race springs. I would even go as to far to say that race spring may be just as stiff as stock sport springs just lower and that why I don't feel any bounce with sport shocks.

ECS tuning has a good shock/spring combo for 700 bucks, its HR race or sport spring with bilstein shocks

what kind of bilstein shocks... make sure you get the sport shocks... more aggressive

yea h&r with bilstein sport shocks has great handling. my freinds r32 has that set up it rides great. i lowered my car with eibachs and did laot of research before i did it. i spoke to an audi tech he said i shouldnt have a problem since its a conservative drop only 1.2 inch less since i have sport suspension. Audi collection at the dealer actually sells eibach springs so the way i see it if audi endorses it they im okay. Hoever how will i know if my shocks go bad.

well maybe ill look into some H&R race srpings since ive got sport shocks... Hmm... Dont even know if they are available for front trac though.

You will blow out shocks quicker from lowering ride heigth or over loading the shock. If you have an operating range of 6 inches and lower it 2 inches (assuming the normal ride hieth is 3 inches) that leaves you with 1 inch of damper and 5 inches of rebound and the extra stress will blow out inner strut rodseals. The strut will eventually form a rattle that sounds similar to strut mounts going bad.
