The squeak's still there
Hi, I really appreciate everybody's posts because I've learned a lot from everyone here. I recently purchased an A4 1.8T quattro with 72K miles. The timing belt/tensioner was making a squeaking noise, so I took it to a certified Audi mechanic to get the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner replaced. However, my problem is now that I've got it changed, it still makes the squeaking sound. The wierd thing is that it doesn't always make the squeaking sound. It is coming from the tensioner and occurs after long drives (30 min) and most the times when I start the car. I put some belt dressing on the timing belt and it only makes the sound higher-pitched. Any help would be much appreciated.
Are you sure its coming from the tensioner and not from one of the rollers. When the bearings start to go bad on the rollers it will produce a really high pitched squeal before it fails. My roller for my accessory belt is bad. The bearings are noisey. I replaced my timing belt and all of the rollers but did not think about the roller for the acc belt. The only good thing that if the acc belt roller fails I will not damage my engine as It would if the timing belt roller fails.
Thanks for the help, that could be it. If so, has anyone had much experience replacing the roller on the accessory belt? Is it a fairly easy DIY job, or would I need a mechanic to do it? If so, how much would it probably cost?
