alright, so i havent torn the car down yet cause i first wanted to check to see if maybe i had air in the coolant system somewhere. Cuz when i refilled i only bled the front valve and didnt turn my heat on at all. so i crank the heat and slide the heater core hose the one with the little bledder hole off the pipe. i start the car and im getting no heat for a while (prob. cuz the car was cold). im seeing a bunch of air and bubbles coming out though. i also began to get heat goin,so i began to think i solved it. Wrong. i take it for a drive after hookin the hose back to the heater core pipeandthe temp.starts to get hot again. once back to the driveway, my heat goes cold again. i bled the air for about 20min or longer id say. the bigger coolant hose in front of the expansion tank was making a sucking noise and pulsating sounding like it was choking or somethin... it seemed my heat would only get hot if i squezzed the hose and got coolant flowing or somethin.imgettin frusturated of this car overheating... so do i tear down and check thermostat and change water pump or am i missing something...

that squeezing the coolant hose sounds fishy. see if there's sumthing blocking it. also, check the expansion tank in that area. also b4 taking things apart, check if the temperature is normal. and ur saying ur see alot of bubles coming out of the bleeder hole by the firewall? run ur car with the rad cap off and see wut happens. u kno another thing u gotta do is talk to ur car nicely and kiss it good night evry night cuz i think it's mad at u right now lol.

proper bleed procedure:

pull hose back from heater core to expose hole.
remove three screws holding down expansion tank.
remove cap from expansion tank, and lift it up so its higher than the exposed hole.
fill tank with coolant until coolant is coming out of the exposed hole on the heater core.
replace expansion tank, replace hose on the heater core.
start car, fill coolant to proper level on tank. Run car, see if level is correct.

Still sounds like you have either a blocked heater core, or closed thermo. Try the bleed precedure and see it that helps.

Dave, did you mean 98 degrees celcius, rather than F? 98F doesnt seem very warm for the thermo to open.

98Cbut just checked my database and the 1.8t 2000 model opens at 87C, and when bleeding the system ensure the temp setting in the cabin is on hot other wise you wont bleed the heater matrix

Your not supposed to turn any bolts when collapsing the tensioner, you're supposed to use an 8mm allan socket to turn the eccentric pulley over, not the bolt that holds it on.
As for the bolt on the bottom of the fan pulley, its an allan right? Use a torx socket (6point) thats a little bigger than the allan you were using and bang it in with a hammer and break it loose by hand.

well thankfully i got the timing belt tensioner bolt out of the block. i have the other bolt from the old tensioner to use. and i did use a torx bit on the fan pulley bolt and it just spun n stripped out on me. i tested the thermostat it opened when it should so thats not the prob. im going to try flushing out my coolant system next to see if its clogged.
