Default striped drain plug...

I feel so stupid for this (so don't flame me) but I over tightened the drain plug previously and 3000 miles later,I just found that out that the plug is completely stripped while doing oil change...

Don't ask how I did it... last I changed the oil, it was too cold so I didn't bother using torque wrench thnking that it would be fine...and I feel real stupid for doing that...[sm=headbang.gif]

It's stripped and won't come off... Is there a way to salvage it still or do i need to replace the oil pane? [sm=boohoo.gif]

Any helpful tip is appreciated...

If you can't get it out, then you'll have to drill and remove it with a special tool. Obviously you'll need to get a new plug, but you shouldn't have to replace the pan.

I did that last summer. I went to sears, bought a bolt extractor 1/2" socket and got it off that way. As you keep turning, it digs deeper into the bolt, it came right out for me after that.

Thanks for the info fellas!!

I want to salvage the oil pan so I'll try audihere's advice after I get the plug out... Hopefully the oil pan wasn't stripped too much...

Thanx again!!
