Default Struck in France with Emission Control Warning light

Hi

Sorry for starting a brand new thread but I'm in a bit of a difficultly and wanted to see if I could get some guidance.

I'm in middle of France and due to drive back to the UK tomorrow. The emission control warning light just came on. The car handles and drives normally but I've got about 600 miles to do tomorrow.

The car is a 55 plate Audi A4 1.8 turbo. It got though a full service last month without any problems. Its got a high biting point on the clutch but trusted mechanic said no reason to change it yet.

The question is can I limp back to the UK or do I need to get it looked at before I go?

My French is very poor and I don't have any international break-down cover.

Before leaving I filled the tank with premium unleaded rather than my normal basic unleaded.

To quote tbe song "should I stay or should I go?"

Thanks in advance.

My advice would be to have the codes read and make your decision based on the issue rather than gambling. Have the codes read and post them on here, and the good chaps here will surely help you reason your way to the best decision.
