subs not working?
ok so i hooked up 2 12" subs and an amp to my symphomy stereo. i used a line out converter and tapped intot the back speaker's. the amp turns on. but the subs will on come on every once in a while and stay on 4 like half a second. and they keep doing this no matter what i try. any idea's as to what it migt be. i just bought the subs brand new, so i doubt there blown but maybe... and the amp i got from a friend. and its a it pioneer 760 watt wich should be more than enough to push those subs. any help?

RE: subs not working?
The reason amp is turning power the the woofers is the protection is kicking in due to an overload. Thats why they only stay on briefly. Have you checked to see if the impedence of the speakers is within the spec for the stereo? Otherwise you may have some kind of a wiring problem.

RE: subs not working?
A few things come to mind when i read your description. First would be you have the subs wired incorrectly. Such as the subs wired to a 2 ohm impedance when the amp can only put out a 4-ohm signal without clipping. this will make your amp go into protection whenever the subs go to play any signal. Heres a link for wiring up subs correctly http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/ele...gns_wiring.php. Another possibility is you could have the gains set really high or even the bass boost and is causing it to clip as well and then shut off to protect itself. Heres a link on setting the gains properly so you dontget a clipped signal which will put your amp into protection and eventually fry your subs. http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/setgain.asp
