Im not sure exactally what these things work with calibration, but i know i have a 2001 a4, and the temp isnt great either. it doesnt spaz out like that, but it is almost allways anywhere form 2-15 degrees high. and thats when driving, so its not from heatsoak. it must be these bulbs, when they get old, they trip

yeah mine did that it would go from 80 to 32 degrees then slowly climb back up then down. i scanned the car and i did get a code for it too. and it was the outside air temp sensor this is what the code looked like
1 Fault Found:
00787 - Temperature Sensor in Fresh Air intake duct (G89)
30-10 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent

replace the outside temp sensor, or at least inspect the harness, clean and use some di-electric grease and see if that helps.
