Throttle cable slack
I've been reading on these forums about people having slack in the throttle cable. I believe my car to have to have this issue, as I can press down on the cable, and it is super loose. It feels like it has a couple of inches of slack. Can I adjust the cable? I have a 98 a4, 1.8tq

RE: Throttle cable slack
Servicing accelerator mechanismAdjusting throttle cable
ββ Throttle cable -5- attached to accelerator pedal and to cable cam on throttle valve control part. [/ul]
βPull securing clip -2- off grooved section of throttle cable sheath -3-.
βDepress accelerator pedal into full throttle position. [/ul]
Note:
A second mechanic is required for this step or use a spring tensioning rod braced against the steering wheel.
Vehicles with manual gearbox
βAdjust throttle cable by re-positioning securing clip -2- at rubber grommet -4- on support bracket -1- so that throttle valve is at full throttle position. [/ul]
Vehicles with automatic gearbox
βAdjust throttle cable by re-positioning securing clip -2- at rubber grommet -4- on support bracket -1- so that throttle valve is fully open and kickdown switch clicks audibly. [/ul]
All models
βRelease accelerator pedal or remove spring tensioning rod.
βAfter adjusting the throttle cable, check position of throttle valve at idling speed and full throttle stops. [/ul]
Checking adjustment (vehicles with automatic gearbox)
βPull 2-pin connector off kick-down switch (F8) in engine compartment (on the bulkhead). [/ul]
ββ Connect hand multimeter V.A.G 1526 with aux. cables from V.A.G 1594 to kick-down switch.
βCheck resistance at switch.
βSpecification: β Ο [/ul]
βSlowly move accelerator pedal in direction of full throttle.
βThe reading must drop to 0 Οshortly after resistance to movement is felt at kick-down point.
βAt this point the accelerator pedal should be just short of the end stop. [/ul][/ul]
