Throttle valve control
I have 98 A4 2.8 Quattro with 5speed. It stalls when coming to a stop. Restarts fine. Searched on hear and cleaned the air filter. Changed the coolant temperature switch. And ran three differant gas treatment intake cleaners in it. Got a code reader today it says 462F. Didn't find anything in a search. The book says Throttle valve control unit-J338 fault in base setting. Anybody know how to set it? Thanks.
Did you have the battery disconnected the day this all started?
You can try doing a throttle body alignment... this is done by disconnecting the battery... leave it disconnected for a bit (I always left it for 30 minutes) then reconnect it, and turn the key to accessory. Do not start the car. Just leave it in accessory for like 3 minutes -- you'll hear it clicking and stuff (the TB doing its thing).

It has done it since I bought it. I will try that. Thanks for the info. I see on other post about the stereo if power is disconnected. I supose this would fall into that catagory. Since I don't have the oriuginal manual. I didn't know if the numbers in the trunk worked. Or there is another web sight with a genaric code if that works.
This sort of thing is usually caused by a dirty throttle body.
buy some intake cleaner, remove the intake hose, spray into the throttle body with the engine off. Have someone open the throttle and spray all around. Use an old toothbrush to scrub out the accumulated carbon and gunk. Spray some more and problem should be gone.
