The official word is that 2 lifters have failed and will not pump up on the left cylinder head. Bad lifters may be visible by eye and if not they may have to replace all 15 prices rang for 2 at $610.00 to all 15 at $1140.00. They also said this would include some new gaskets that are prone to leaking down the road. How bad am I getting ripped?

Thanks

I don't think you're getting ripped off really, but you might do a little better on cost at an independent shop (I'm assuming this quote is from a dealership). Hard to say though since I've never taken my car to a dealer (I'm not into being raped in the back door). There's quite a bit of labor involved here - either removing the heads (which would also mean that you might as well do your t-belt service since it would be coming off to remove them), or more likely, doing the surgery with them on the car. Either way it's quite a bit of digging and dismantling to get down there to work on the lifters. Check some independent shops, even if you have to drive a ways to get to them - if they have a good reputation they probably will know what they're doing, and the indie shops usually don't cost as much as the dealer for the same work.

That was from an indy shop. They're known to be a little salty sometimes but they do good work and they're the only one that anybody seems to know about in my area.
