You are lucky but I have a story that is even more lucky...
Last night I was driving down the highway, with a cheap radar detector my friend gave me. I was kinda driving like an *** and passed a car and then gunned it for the straightaway. I haven't pushed my car hard yet so i wanted to try out some speed with the open highway. Well I think I was going near 100mph when I saw the cop lights. I pull over, unplug my radar detector so he doesnt see it. He gets on the announcer and says "Turn the car off immedietly and put the keys on top of your car."
I do what he says and he comes over.
Officer: "Any idea how fast you were going?"
Me: Uhmm..around 80.
Officer: any good reason for that?
Me: There isn't really a good reason.
Officer: Thats it? I give you a chance to redeem yourself and all you say is no reason, you could try to get your ticket reduced so it doesn't go on insurance.
Me: (feeling stupid that I didn't say anything) Well, I figured you guys have heard it all already so you wouldn't want to hear excuses
Officer: Well just slow down, I'll let you off with a verbal warning.
And that was it....It was awesome. I'm pretty sure He didn't get me on radar, or else he wouldve and shouldve gave me a ticket. I learned an important lesson....don't drive like an *** anymore, and invest in a good radar detector if you want to use one. (btw, my cheap whistler one never went off)

Nice job with the judge! I recently got clocked at 29mph over and the MA state trooper just let me go!!
Also, I don't use a radar detector anymore. Its just a false sense of security, especially on the highway where the cops use laser. By the time it beeps, if at all, the cop already has your speed. And, if the cop sees the detector, you're going to get a ticket no matter what. Since I've stopped using my radar detector, I've had much better luck. I also carry a badge, so that helps too.

yep got nailed for 95 in a 55 today. No way i was doing 95 when I had the cruise control on 75 in the middle lane and people were passing me on both sides. I think the window tints got me pulled over and i ended up getting a ticket for them but no speeding ticket. dumb.
