Be careful when bringing in your car for service. Even though I keep my tires at exactly 50 pounds, the tech aired them down to 28/30. You'd think they'd figure out that all 4 being 50 was on purpose and not just some strange coincidence... I ended up with outer wear on the fronts as a result.

So I changed rims to 17' (from the original 16') which obviously alters pressure and weight. I have a '00 facelift Tdi (115bhp-oddball). Running 225/17's. So what pressure (approx) for the obviously heavier diesel unit etc?

My first post!! Woo Hoo! lol

You have to remember not all tire pressure gauges are created equally either. I own 4 gauges that are considered high end quality gauges and there is 8 pounds difference between the low one and the high one with no 2 of them reading the same. So you ask, Just how do I measure the tire pressure? I really don't I use the gauge for a reference point. I carry a tread depth gauge and measure the outer edge, The inner edge and the center every 1000 miles and adjust pressure accordingly so the wear across the tire stays even. On one gauge this might read 32 Lbs and on the higher one 40 Lbs. Maybe this gives you some food for thought.

For all of you quattro owners, I hope you don't have a large pressure differences between your front tires and rear tires. I believe with a certain large range of tire pressure from front to rear can have an effect on your quattro system. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

*caution* thread ressurection!

inside fuel door on '98 A41.8T Quattro 5 spd. reads:
32 psi for "normal" conditions (driver + passenger)
42 psi for "loaded" conditions (driver + 4 passengers + luggage)

ERGO...
somewhere halfway should be fine and will net you a little more MPGs.
