Default Towing with A4

Hello,

I'm moving to NYC from Chicago and wanted to see if towing a U-Haul 4x8 or 5x8 cargo trailer for the 14 hour ride, with probably less than 1,000 lbs of weight in the trailer, would be harmful to the transmission or to the car in general? In addition, is there a special part I would need to get other than the stock tow hook already on the car?

Thank you.

Understandable but there is a $700 difference in price. Thanks for advice. Hopefully I get more replies. Although I will have to check manual; haven't done that yet. But there is a tow hook on the back of the car correct? Maybe I'm wrong. I would think there is towing capacity if there is a tow hook on the back.

a tow hook is not to tow a trailer. It is to pull the car out of the ditch or to help pull someone else out. Not full time pull of anything.

You would need to install a trailer hitch and wiring for trailer lights. I've read where people have put a hitch on their Audi, but nothing as small as an A4. doesn't mean it isn't possible, but I'd sure go the safe route and look at a truck with a car trailer.

Not sure the car dolly would be the way to go either with the 4-wheel drive.

OK that's fair. I don't have that much stuff so I will just Fedex it. Thanks!

How much/what do you tow with it? I'm guessing maybe a jetski or small fishing boat?

I usually use it to take my bikes to track days a few times a month. But ive also used it to haul rims and a few household items never anything extremely heavy cause its only rated at at 2500lbs. I hauled a 1.8t inside a tractor trailer tire for my friend just yesterday.
