Greetings from a first-time poster here ... I'm a previous Audi owner (we had a 2000 A4 for many years). We're now contemplating a used (2007-2009ish) Q7, which we'll be using to tow a boat. The tow weight is between 4000 and 5000 pounds (not quite sure yet, as we're still picking between a couple models).

My question is simple ... I can only find reference to two towing capacity numbers (5500 w/o tow package, 6600 with) for the Q7. It's unclear if that figure is the same for the 3.6 and the 4.2, or if they differ. Logically, it seems the 3.6 should have a lower capacity, but I can't find any documentation on that. If the 3.6 will do the job, we'd love to take that route...

Any advice?

Not sure about the 4.2 but i have 3.6 with towing package and yes, it's capacity is 6600.

I recommend buying the one with the package instead of retrofit (installing one later on) since there are some electronics / modules involved..

yeah. it took me a while to find the Q7 with packages that i want and the color combination (phantom black/cardamom beige).

Its the end of 2007 lease so hopefully you get the Q7 you want..
