Default Tranny fluid as an engine laxative?

Folks,
I've been researching an oil sensor light problem on this site and have seen a couple mentions of running a quart of auto tranny fluid in the engine oil to periodically clean things up... is this indeed a normal practice? I've used 'purpose' chemicals for this but only on old beaters, not something as nice as an Audi (with 1.8T, 61k miles, yes, time for the belts too).

I have used nothing but M1 changed at 3-5k intervals... does a "Dex-Lax" flush still make sense?

Engine should not be hot.

I'd first check the oil. Pull the dip stick out. Rub the oil between fingers. If the oil is smooth it's good. Replace the dipstick.

Remove the oil refill cover. Put a finger on the inside of the valve cover , and feel for sludge. If you only feel smooth oil it's good. Replace the oil cover

Use recommended fluids for engine cleaning. Tranny fluid is not reommended.

I know ive said this b4 somewhere but i thought that on older cars the "sludge" is what is keeping oil from leaking.

Default .

Regardless of whether or not it keeps it from leaking, you should try to get away from oil sludge. If you have a leak you should fix it - not let sludge clog it up.

My performance shop reccomended that I do that when I had the sludge problem. I only ran it for a couple hundred miles and changed the oil and filter after the first hundred. That's really important because it will fill up an oil filter quickly.

The sludge cleaned out by the auto tranny fluid. It filled up one filter in about 100 miles and the second in another 100. Yeah, ultimately Audi did take care of it, but initially I had to deal with it. It wasn't until about three months after the fix that I got the letter from Audi. I'll email you the details and a copy of the letter from Audi.
