hey NightFlight ... how does this apply to manual transmissions? I'm at 98k and never changed transmission or differential fluids in a manual transmission Quattro. What should I be doing to see 200k?
Once again, standard transmissions transfer cases and differentials with their sealed environments, don't see the cumbustion gases, blowby and other contaminents that engine oil does. The typical 90w (or equivalent) will last long time, as long as it has not seen extreme overheating, from towing and such.
I've had quite a few rides, 4wd,fwd, rwd, that have gone way past 100k on the original gear oil with absolutey no problems. But, to be on the safe side and as long as is doesn't require some involved dissmantaling and re-sealing (some do..) it cant hurt to repalce the gear oil at 125-150k.

I'm not sure who you're referring to, but your question follows my post on the subject.
Just to be clear, I deffinatley believe in the manufacture's recommend transmission service. It's this fairly new, revenue generating concept of transmission flushes that I have a real problem with. I've seen LOTS of data come in from the field in the last few years on major transmission problems following a flush. Problems that did not exist prior to the treatment, and were proven during failure analysis to be caused by foriegn matter introduced by contaminated fluid.

I live in California and I just wanted to know what a fair price for a tranny flush would be, including filter change? I just dont want to get ripped off, I would do itmyself but I probably dont have the right tools. Thanks

It will be expensive. If you are talking about a tiptronic, the entire transmission takes 9 QT at 15 dollars a quart, just for fluid.

I just drain and fill the pan every 60K miles. I'm now at 175 K miles, and at 200, I'll drop the pan and change the filter.

I have a 99 A4 1.8T. I took it to a giac dealer to get a tip chip, but also asked them about a problem I've been having with the car. Under either fast or slow acceleration, the car will vibrate a bit, its intermittent. They said the transmission fluid needs to be flushed. I called a dealer and they said that its not supposed or cant be flushed due to it being a sealed system. Anyone know whats going on ? Thanks.
they are a sealed system meaning that they WILL NOT leak unless tampeared with. i got my transmission fluid changed, filter changed ect last month with 163,000 miles on her!! i only had a shocking 3litres of oil in the tranny!! eek!
a comman symtom for needing a tranny flush and fluid change would be if your gearbox slips, knocks, misses, clunks ect, going round a corner or breaking suddenly, dosnt down-shift properly also relating to breaking suddenly, and the symtoms are most comman in the mornings when the car is cold, thus once you leave your drive the engine will rev right up and will hesitate going into 2nd gear.

but from what you described, the vibration, it sounds like it could either be a miss fire or a wheel weight has fallen off.
check your wheels to see if you can see a weight missing or an un-even tire tread. tire pressure ect
check your spark plugs.
check your spark plug cables at night time to see if there is any arching.
if you can get a vag-com to see if a miss fire has been detected.

hope this helps
