Turbo Question

You could make 350 with it but it'd be hot, like the KO3 making 250. It's not just going to give you the power you'll have to work damn hard for that kind of power from the 20v T.
If you're serious about over 300bhp then the first thing to do is the clutch + oil pump, then look to getting a front mount intercooler. Not sure on the stock injector flow rates but maybe somebody else can say if they're ok for that kinda power. From there you'd want to get the car mapped on a rolling road ideally and the car will need the highest octane fuel you guys get.
I'd replace or check over all the turbo hosing and fit something like a forge DV. You can go bigger turbo wise but not much point, you'll end up with a lazy laggy setup with no real punch. A smaller unit like the T28 or the T3 is ideal as it spins up hard and fast. Plus if you're going bigger power ie over 350 bhp then the car will need more mods, and the transmission strain will be greatly increased.

When it sais that it has a flow capacity of 350hp does that mean that it can produce that much? or is taht with tuning and stuff.
Will the GT3040R-TURBO work on the 1.8t? how much other stuff do i need to buy for it once its installed?

Next, the transmission in these car are very very strong. There are a few examples of blown transmission, but a very very small percent of bt cars have problems. I make around 300whp and I launch, and have dumped the clutch on many occasions with no problems. This isnt a wrx, you dont really hafta worry about the transmissions.
Next the gt3040, could break 350bhp without breaking a sweet. 400whp (~500chp) is very possible.
Stock injectors fp could not supply enough fuel. You would need a walbro pump (255lph) and 440cc or 550cc injectors with an adjustable fpr.
I have wrote up some info its in the faq, It might be helpful

Some of this is true but there is a lot of false info in here. First basically no one upgrades their oil pump, in fact I've only seen it done once on a car making around 500whp. 2nd the gt30 bb series, is anything but a lazy lagy set-up with no punch. Power comes on smooth and hard, and I don't how it possibly could be described as lazy. With a dual ball bearing turbo power comes on hard and very smooth, unlike the tq spike of a normal t3/t4. BTW have you ever ridden in a bb bt car? Just curious.

I meant lazy and laggy if you went for a larger unit than the T3 or T28, ie the T4 unit, It's the T3 which i've actually recommended.
I've never ridden in a highly modded 1.8t, all my turbo experience comes from Mitsubishi EVO and Ford sierra cosworths which i have to admit are very different setups to the audi.
Didn't say you'd break the transmission but as with any car you have to consider it, you can't just take a stock transmission designed to run at 150-200 bhp and throw 350bhp through it all day long without some premature wear, it was just a caution.
I know the T3 can make 350 pretty well, i actually was talking about the T28 not being ideal for power above the 350bhp range.
You've modded the 20v with a garrett right? I'd be very tempted to see how the car goes running 300bhp+, not really worth it on mine being a FWD but i'd definately consider it on a quattro. Think i'll just hold out for an S4 next and start with bigger power out the box.

You're right sorry i think i've not made some of the points clear, i didn't mean upgrade the oil pump i simply meant check to make sure you're getting full oil pressure, if not then make sure it's replaced. Before i've modded any car i've always made sure the engine is running in peak condition before hand, not suggesting you need more pressure there.

The t4 would def be very laggy
yes I have the 20v with a garrett, and the car is a blast all around. It should have came stock with this turbo imo.
Many ppl make 300whp on fwd, sure there would be traction problems but once your moving it would be a blast!
Aaah a4s with a 28rs from the factory, that would be nice.
btw-Dave ran mid 12s with his t3/t4, but his 0 to 60 time was like high 6s cuz there was so much lag, but when boost would kick in, you would be gone. Making 275whp is nothing really that special, dave dynod with his and made over 360whp, and tuned the thing in his garage.
