ok, i just got the car back a few days ago from the dealer for a window problem. i left town for a couple days (work) and left the car at home. i got home tonight, get in and it turns and turns but wont start, wont do anything. just turns over. what gives? anyone else had this happen? it ran great before, this is out of nowhere. its completely stock. any ideas?

Check your ignition.....make sure you are getting some spark.

 

Yep yep, fuel or spark -- that's your problem when it turns over, but doesnt fire.

 

ok..how do i check ignition? im afraid to touch this thing. im used to japanese cars. im just gonna have it towed to the dealer man this is frustrating.

 

ouch your going to take it to the stealership.. get ready to get raped.. seriously .. just pull a plug and see if your getting spark... its pretty damn simple

 

OK, I'm having a similar problem with my wife's A4: leave it for a couple of days--especially if it's chilly out--and the damn thing will crank and crank, but won't start. Let it sit for awhile . . . come at it again: she cranks and cranks and FINALLY catches.

It SEEMS like all the gas is draining away from the engine when it sits, which doesn't sound good. It's only happened about three times in the last year, but I'm afraid it's going to quit on her at a more inopportune moment.

Anyone got any ideas? I've tried searching the site, but didn't find anything similar except this thread . . .

 

Check to make sure the car is holding fuel pressure when you shut it off. Also check to see if the ecm is getting a good signal from the engine speed sensor.

 

The B6 1.8s are notorious for bad fuel pumps

Easy to check, pull the fuel feed line off (the one closest to the firewall with a union nut on it)

If there is no fuel check the fuse, its #28

Fuse is good- pull the rear seat up and remove the cover on the passenger side and the connector to the pump

Use a multimeter to check voltage at terminals 1 & 4 when cranking

If you get cranking voltage, around 10-10.5 volts you need a pump

If not you will probly need a relay


P.S if the car is under warranty always take it to the dealer

 

AudiTech04, did you mean pull the feed line instead of the return line off? If you did mean the feed line with the nuts, when I put it back what is the torque? Thanks.
