Need help! So I start the car today and it feels funny like like not all the cylinders arn't firing so I open her up and I find this round thing that sits on top of the airbox and it's clicking really loud and when I unplug it, it stops. Not sure what it is but and the CEL's on now...

 

That would be your evap purge valve. The check engine light is on because of a evap purge valve open circuit.

 

the clicking sound from that valve adtually means its working correctly. get your ecu scanned for fault codes for the cel..

 

Finally got the CEL scanned, turns out it was a misfire in #1. It's weird, it's not doing it any more... Any ideas?

 

what the hell does #1 mean what was the acuual code??

 

misfire in #1 cylinder, duh!

 

That usually means you have a bad coil pack-which is sort of common. Check/change plugs to be sure.
Coil packs are funny. They dont just die normaly. It will start out with random missfires until one day it finally quits on you. Take care of it soon though, missfires are bad for your engine.

 

Thanks, is there some way to check the packs? Cause right now I'll have to wait till it miss fires again before I can swap it out and test it.

 

If you have a voltmeter you can test the resistance or voltage. If its an intermitent or random thing, it might be hard to diagnose even with the right equiptment. A coil pack is like $22 I think from ECS.
