Yeh thats my concern. The insurance will double and at the end of all that my insurance would result in a higher amount then my damages. I reported the car to the garage to let them know what happened (the car has been sitting in their parking lot since morning jan1) so i had to tell them today once they opened that my car has been in a accident and for them to check it out and give me an estimate.. They said they will notfiy me later today.
I will keep you guys informed..

when my car ended up like it did in that picture, i immediately thought what happened to your car happened to mine.

i was all set to give up the car to a repair shop for a few months and go thru insurance...called my company, then called claims but decided to wait and find out exactly what the problem was before arranging a meet with claims. Once you open a report and they check out the car and find out how many thousands of dollars they are gonna be shelling out for you, let the premium raises begin.

Luckily, my car was fine with the exception of the body damage i did, which i am gonna let alone for the moment - that would probably cost like 2 grand to fix.

If you can bear it, it might be worth it to try to borrow or work for 2000 dollars and be without your car for a month or so...just leave it sitting somewhere till you can come up with the money to foot the repairs out of your pocket. this way, at least you'll avoid preimum raises, which honestly is the last thing you want to be dealing with, espeically when you're young like a lot of us are.

If you're under 25 like a lot of us are, we're gonna be in the "highest risk" and most expensive insurance bracket for a few more years. We would be financially slammed for a multi-thousand dollar claim.

I pay 110 a month now, and i am 21. If i had put this thru insurnace if i needed to, it's almost certain my premium would have AT LEAST doubled to over 200 a month. That's 110 dollars extra a month times 48, for the next 4 years until a decrease in my insurance would be expected = over 5000 dollars. Assuming your repairs are around 2000 dollars and that your premium would likely at least double if you go through insurance, i don't know how long you're gonna be in the insurance bracket you're in and when you will be seeing a decrease, but you could potentially end up saving a lot of money footing this bill yourself.

Good luck man. let us know how it works out.
