when you start your car...(manuals)
no it doesn't hurt anything....until somebody else drives your car and you go to get in it and start it without the clutch pedal in and the car lurches into your dad's motorcycle. (happened to a friend)
But my car is the same way. It is a 97 1.8tqm and it has been like that since i bought it. It is not a bad thing, but I always push in the clutch anyways, because I am used to it.

start on a hill...turn key to "ON" postion.....begin rolling...around 5 mph, dump clutch and hit gas pedal...you dont even need to turn the key to start your car!??!!? GLORY!
you just figure that out? j/k that the way my grandfather used to start his truck every morning. I don't have to push my clutch in, the only diff between doing it is that the started turns over the clutch plate and input shaft in the trany, not that much mass comparted to the rest of the engine.
I thought u had to put the clutch in. In my car u do i know that, it says engage clutch to start car on the screen, and i know my mustang required it too. I thought all manuals u had to but i guess not.
my 88 jeep didnt require you to push the clutch down it is the same on my 97 2.8 a4. each time i go to the track i get hasseled about it cause the car dosent have a safety neutral switch
if you do a roling start you should be in 2nd gear.

i was amazed when my friend taught how to drive his rsx-typeS.... how slow u have to let the clutch out... (when starting out) from a standstill.... very first time... i had the car buckin! lol... but i got the hang of it real fast...
