Hi,

I have a 97 A4 and this mourning the window stopped going up. It goes down fine but when i try close it via the window switch it goes up slowly about 5 inches and stops. My immediate question is how do i close itmanually? I try pulling up on it and it sticks and just goes up about 3 inches and then shuts again. Any suggestions on a permanent fix (I assume its the regulator), and a way to close it manually?

Thanks,

Jeff

yeah, most likely the regulator broke (I've changed 3 and thats what happened each time). plus the little metal line is all twisted and tied together probably. the regulator at the dealership is like $110 or something and will take 3+ hours your first time doing it.

a few are lucky, where the plastic peice on the regulator is not broken and then you just put the window back on track and straighten that metal line back out.

Good Luck!

Well you can either deal w/it and get a bag or some sort of obstruction between you and rain from the heavens...or you can take the door panel off, and try to help it up. If you can't that way, grab one of the pully wires as you pull the button up to roll the window up and it should go up making horrible noises on the way up. Just try different things when you get the panel off..that's what i did.

well in the process of beating on it to remove the door panel, I got it close slowly. Thanks for the advice, guess I will try a permanent fix this weekend.
