Default Windshield Crack

About a month back i noticed a 8" vertical crack on the windshield of
my 2001 A4, meandering up from the place where the windshield viper
ends, . I cant feel the crack on the surface from inside or outside,
and hasnt travelled (lengthened) in the past month.

1. The dealer recommended guy who will put an "Audi certified, &
stamped' glass on is asking for ~$600/- for the replacement.
2. scouting around some other replacement companies quote ~$450 for and
Audi stamped, ~$300 for superior quality (claimed to be the same
windshield minus the logo, brands being named : PPG, Pilkington) , and
~$200 for safelite.

I am looking for views on what the difference of quality between
'safelite' vs Superior quality vs Audi logoed glasses.
In some forums, I've read some horror stories about 'badly installed
windshield'. People have gone to the extent of recommending not to
change windshield if the crack/damage is not increasing .
Thoughts, suggestions, experiences....

Thanks

if it were me, i'd probably have it replaced..only because it would be the only thing i saw everytime i got into my car...and i would probably just go with a safelite..i don't know much about windshields but i know they all have to pass the same safety standards, so i can't really justify paying more than twice as much for the same windshield

EDIT: $200? i just got an instant quote from their website and it quoted me $330

do not get Safelite, they suck! the shape of the safelite glass is more often than not curved wrong. plus they do mostly mobile work which means horrible quaility install.

take your car to an independent shop, and get the PPG glass. Pilkington is good too.

If they brand is not good then dont buy it, but dont buy a windsheild with a stupid audi logo on it for more money. My mustang was bought with a cracked windsheild and i think it was 200 installed and everything.
