Default '04 A6 2.7T -- when to service auto tranny?

Hi all, new to the forum; just bought my first Audi last week. Been reading on the forums alot and learning about caring for my new car. The one question I haven't seen covered too specifically is when to service the tranny. I know they're "mainatinance-free", but i also know they cost 9K to replace. SO, what is everyone's opinion?
Thanks,
jeremy

Changing the fluid and filter every 60k is good practice, and trust me it will be dirty and it will shift better after its done.

should I take it ti Audi to do it (I'm guessing "no")? Or try to find a good indy shop or a "chain" tranny shop? I'm very weary of who works on my cars....

Most Audi dealers will not do it. They will give you the "lifetime" thing. Either DIY, or have a Indy Audi shop do it. If you use the factory fluid, it's expensive! I put Redline D4 ATF in mine.
