Default 1999 tranny

hello all.

new to forum. Dumped a bmw 325 vert couple years ago, and bought my '99 a6 avant for the long commute and the snow-bustin quattro. I'venot had a real need for a forum since (no mx needs, andno $ for trickin it out lately). But now....here I am.

Finally have an issue. I've searched forum and found similar, but not same problem.

It's a new tranny issue. I have the Tiptronic Automatic, with 130K, (over 30K miles a year with my job).6 weeks or so ago I began to notice lagging downshifts whenever I decelerate rapidly, then get on the gas right away. When it happens, it drops back to first (or maybe second) real abrupt like. If I wait to get on the gas, or decelerate slower, it will downshift correctly. All upshifts are perfect (yeah, it does the cold, delayed upshift, but I expect that). Oh yeah, the other day, it flat out dropped out of D (without touching selector) to neutral. I pulled off, cycled the selector, and it drove my 60 mile trip home no problem. The dropout got me real interested in the problem. I've had the tranny module checked for faults, and found none ($175 at Stealer!). A local trans shop, who I'm silly enough to trust, has driven it and believes fluid flush won't do it, and wants to rebuild for 3K. He says tranny fluid troubleshooting stepwould be $150 wasted. Here's the questions. What are my odds that a fluid flush will help/hurt? I bought it used at 75K, and have not touched tranny since. Local dealer of course says, "it's a sealed unit, only option is new tranny.." *******. Have any of you's had this particular problem, and has it evolved into something worse? Ya thinktranny failure is immenent? (Hate todump a car that I love, but would, before it got worse, but onlyto a dealer trade to cover my bets...).

Can't decide on bestcourse on this. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Great forum. Now that the wife moved out, I've got alot more time to think aboutmy vehicle.....

Other issues I've seen here that I relate to..... dead pixels on MFD; dead lock-out switch on rear windows (don't want the kids dickin with windows anyway); tie rod ends that wear out afterabout 6 miles, warped front rotors.

What I like best about it: ROCK solid freeway cruiser, 90 mphwhile half asleep after a midnight shift; quattro; leather interior; heated seats, even for spoiled kids in back; body style that still looks new after 8 years.

thanks for anyhelp

The only other possibilty is the shifter sellector is malfunctioning, but that will typically throw a fault. Its possible to re-build the transmission but the germans don't want us messing with them because they are supposed to be too complicated for us to muster,we only buildmanuals, and if you take it to like aamco or somewhere they will probably f*** it up.
