Default 2.7t changed thermostat, spilled water now wont start.

I changed the thermostat, which entailed pulling apart the front end and pulling off the timing belt and putting it back on. Everything went relatively smoothly. I double checked the timing when i put it all bqck together and am pretty sure everything got plugged in.
Only problem is that it won't start now. It started fine and I pulled it out if the garage and turned it off. It starting fine and running fine here make me not think its timing related but could be wrong. Poured water in the coolant reservoir, it overflowed and now it won't start. I have spark and fuel. Did I screw up a sensor or something? No codes coming up on the scanner, no check engine light, but can still connect to ecu. I let it all dry out for a couple hours but its 25 degrees out so I think it more just froze if anything. We've got a baby due and day and need this thing working ASAP. My mechanic cant get to it for 3 weeks. I'm fairly proficient, done timing belts, head gaskets, etc but audis are confusing for me. The car is a 2001 abroad 2.7th

I don't remember any ground to the thermostat. What did it look like?

Why would it need a ground? It's touching the block
