Default 2002 A6 4.2 Timing Belt job...bout right?

So I just had a timing belt, thermostat, tensioner, rollers, serpentine belt, fan clutch, water pump, coolant, service for $1335. My A6 only has 53000 miles on it. It was an overheating issue. Belts weren't bad, but since the front end had to be torn into, I wanted this all done at once.

Seemed a bit early for this kind of service, but they said that the 4.2 in an A6 gets really hot! The belt was loose too...they claimed that the tensioner is a bit small for the 4.2.

Any insights? Does the price for everything outlined seem fair?

When my thermostat went on my 2.8, Most shops were asking for $1200-$1500, I got it done for $650 but that shop is a rarity. My mechanic just mentioned to me the other day that the 4.2 job is more money since its harder to do so $1335.00 seesm just about right.

That's a great price and I don't think 60K on a rubber belt is early. I would have them replace all of the Vacuum lines you can order oem braided cheap from www.ecstuning.com
Just order 5 meters of it. Easy job and you'll be good for another 60K on those.

You might also consider the Cam cover gaskets before they start seeping-another easy job

Price seems reasonable since the kit for mine cost $400 and the labor was another $600. However, I thought I had read on the forum that the 4.2l engine has a timing chain vs a timing belt.

We just payed $1600 at the dealer. I would say as long as you got original or better quality parts and not cheap aftermarket, that you have done well.
