Default 2004 2.7T Oil Change

Ok, I understand my question may be very stupid to some of you, however here goes...
In order to change the oil myself on a 04 2.7T A6 are there any special tools I need to buy first to get to or remove the filter and plug? Are there any other things that I will need to do in order to change the oil or is it fairly simple to do yourself on this car? I am by no means a mechanic and could use any advice/directions to get me on the right path.
thanks

Very simple process, you need a 17 or 19mm socket, can't remember which one. The filter is easily removed with any universal adjustable filter wrench. Just pop the fill cap off, then pull the drain plug (beside the oil filter) drain oil, then remove filter. Put new filter in place and tighten by hand, put the drain plug in and torque. FIll er up, takes about 7q, make sure to fill to about 90%, then run the engine at idle for a couple min, shut it down, check the level and top up as necessary

Not so simple - you have to get the undertray off first and therein lies the difficulty. There aren't any special tools needed but there is no room between the tires and the fasteners in the wheel well so a couple of trips to the passenger compartment to turn the wheels is required. Some people advise leaving the undertray off to facilitate oil changes, others say cut a section out of the undertray, still others say leave the undertray alone. All have valid points so that is an individual decision. But, once the tray is off, the job is one of the easiest oil changes you will ever do! Just make sure you drain the oil not the transmission!

Good luck,

Bob

Completely forgot about the undertray, perhaps because I took it off and left it off, it now sits in the basement.
