Driving home yesterday and as i approached my house I heard a humming sound coming from the engine. When I turned the engine off, the noise remained and kept humming for a good 20 minutes afterward. The car started ok this morning, no noise but didn't heat up very fast(very cold in the northeast today). Also about 20 minutes into my morning commute I got the Triangle & ABS sign in the dashboard. Taking car in for normal 75K treatment tomorrow but this is something I would like to know about before I go in. Thanks for any advice.

 

Was it humming a happy song or a sad song? I've had my ABS light come on at random intervals -- when running over the warning bumps on the edge of a highway and when driving in slushy/freezing weather and using the brakes. I think the brake pads or sensors may sometimes react funny and cause an alarm. In both cases, the next time I started the car the ABS light was gone. If it happens a lot, you may want to get your ABS unit rebuilt (someone like Modulemasters). Of course, make sure your brakes are operating properly first.
