Question 2006 Audi A6 push button start does not work

I just purchased a 2006 A6 with a technology package installed, but I can start the car only with a master key. When I keep the key in a pocket and press the push start button (once/twice) nothing happens. The stop button works fine. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

There might be a problem with the transmitter/receiver of the wireless chip in the key, I don't know if it's fixable w/o a dealer's intervention.

The first generation have switches had an enormous failure rates with some owners going through 4 or 5 switches. Audi has a TSB on the issue. It is likely that the switch has gone bad. Of course the switch may still be good and you may just not have your foot on the brake.

Yes, I am talking about the button, which sits on top of a switch.
