Default 2012 A6 - advanced key question

So we recently bought a 2012 A6 2.0T Premium Plus. Nice ride.

However, we are super frustated that while it has keyless starting you still need the key to unlock the doors/trunk. Seems counter-intuitive as if you have to have your key out you might as well shove it in the ignition.

Anyway.. I've tried searching this forum for information and am turning up nothing. But is there any way to get this done after the fact? The dealership we bought it from has been basically useless in helping out. I would think that all the "guts" are there to have it work, but would probably need new keys and some programming.

Any chance at this?

ldogg53,

What do you mean you have to get the Key out to open the doors. I have an A6 Prestige and my key is in my laptop bag, and as long as its in the area I can just grab the handle and the door unlocks and opens.

It's under warranty, just take it to another Audi dealership. Have them reprogram your keys. In less you bought just the basic model with a upgrade smart key.

Right, the best I can tell is the only model from the factory with the advanced key is the 3.0 prestige. It doesn't even show as an option on the Audi website. So the question is if this is possible to get done anyway.

Just seems like a major oversight by Audi to have a car so technologically packed and even with keyless start, but yet you have to have your key fob in hand to lock/unlock the car.

I have the same problem. Cannot believe i have to fumble for the key fob to unlock the doors Apparently Audi corrected this oversight in the 2013 A6. It is now standard with the Premium Plus package. We however are out of luck.

WOw.. I hate to hear that. I would have thought that some enterprising service manager would have figured out how to do this. I suspect all the "guts" are there to make it work.
