96 cigarette outlet fuse problems
Hey everyone,
I just bought a Garmin StreetPilot i3 GPS. I went to use the cigarette outlet in my 1996 A6 Quattro and it failed to power my device. I tried my cell phone, and it doesn't charge either. When I bought the car, it failed to come with a manual. So I'm assuming I need to replace a fuse, but I don't know which fuse. Anyone have any ideas?
Also, on occasion the stereo will just decide to turn off. When I turn it back on it will load up very quickly and continue playing the song it was on, and be fine the rest of the trip. Is this normal? The voltage seems to be at a reasonable level, just wondering if I should worry.
Thanks,
Caleb

If the fuse setup is the same as later cars it will be on the bottom with the larger fuses. Center row. Third from the top. You may also have to pry the sides of the lighter inward as they bend outward with time and fail to make contact. Just be sure to remove the fuse first.
As for the radio that is not normal. If the connectors and on the radio and the wiring check out ok, the fix is probably a new radio.
