99' A6 quatro i need help

Have you used a multimeter to ensure the head unit is getting power? I don't believe the changer will respond if the head unit is not getting power. So all the problems could be caused by the head unit.
What head unit does the 99 use? It is a singe din or a double din? If it is double din and your head unit turns out to be faulty, the dealer has them for $40.00 bucks right now. But that is getting way ahead of ourselves.

First -- You should have looked for help before purchasing an AUDI, but if you tell us where you live someone will be able to recommend a good shrink!
As for the fuses -- since you are a newbee - You need to check between both sides of the fuses and ground. If a fuse is blown -one side will have power and the other will not. If neither side has power you'll need to turn the ignition on.
Unless your really really rich and want to throw away your money -DO NOT GO TO A DEALER! find a local shop that works on Audi's and add them to your Christmas card list... People here can make recomendations for your area if you ask..

There are some good shrinks in N Billerica on Esquire Road next to where I work!
As for mechanics - When I don't want to do the job myself I use Bill at J&R in Lowell (978-441-0404) and get 90% of my parts from Force Five in Concord NH (603-223-6700)
I'd share a diagram with you but My docs only cover the A6 C4 up to 97..
