Default A6 air condition not blowing

Just purchased a 1998 A6 and the air condition is not working. The aux fans are coming on, the compressor is coming on. But the blower inside the car is not coming on.

I sent the climate control off and had it rebuilt , but it did not help. I still have the same issue. I found a link to the details on how to check the codes on the control unit , but I tried to follow the instructions and they do not work exactly like my unit. The link is http://www.audiworld.com/tech/int5.shtml#Notes52

The instructions say to hold the recirculation button and then press the manual flow up arrow. This does nothing for me, but if I use the temp up button, both sides of the display start rolling differnt numbers. Not sure what this represents? I never seen 1C, but I did see C1. Can anyone help with this one.

Anyway, I think it could be the blower motor inside the car under the dash , but I wnat to test it. is there a way to run power to it to test?

I also read that it could be the external temp sensor, how can I test it?

Thanks
Rick

Does the blower fan work with the heater on, or the a/c off. Does it ever turn on?

No it does not.

No matter what I do with the controls (heater,AC,defrost) , there is nothing coming out of the vents. I dropped the glove box, removed the blower and spun it by hand and it felt good . I did not run battery power to it to see if it would work because I wasn't sure if this would cause more damage somewhere else. Is it ok to test the fan just by supplying power to it ?

Yes, you can test the fan by running power to it. It can handle up to 12 volts without damage.

Ok, I ran 12 volts to the blower under the glove box and it came on and blows ice cold air. Now my task is to find out where my fault is.

I need to identify which relay is the solar panel seperation relay and figure out how to test it. I called the dealer in ATL and they said they have never heard of a "seperation relay" .

Since the blower can be bypassed and it blows cold air , can I eliminate the ambient temperature sensor mounted in the front bumper as a potential cause of my problem?

Thanks for any advice or input
Rick
