My A6 Quattro 1996 estate model is getting increasingly difficult to drive..... Problem seems to be erratic idling and some sort of misfire when driving, which means that I have to keep the speed up, even when around town.

The A6 is only driven occasionally. When I am away often the battery loses 100% power, and this occurence may be resetting something, somwhere, just dont know.

Anyhow symptoms are very erratic and high idling, surges and drops of power when driving. I have replaced the (expensive) electronic control unit but this did not work. Two Audi garages here have been unable to fix it. Is this a problem in the throttle valve potientiometer, idle stabilisation valve, clogged throttle hose. Any information welcome. Thanks.
