A6 Radio Help
If I understand it correctly, your radio doesn't turn on at all. No "SAFE" or any indications it has power. This about it?
Has it ever worked from the time you have owned it? If not it could have many PO (previous owner) induced issues. Could be almost anything.
If the "normal" fuse box fuses are good, the next step is to remove it and check if it is hooked up. Check for PO'd (butchered) wires from an aftermarket stereo install. Also there are fuses on the radio itself... in the back.
If you are having problems removing the radio, you do know it takes FOUR (4) removal tools to remove the radio? The tools are inserted with the points of the tool closest to the side of the radio. The tool should LOCK into place when inserted properly. It is possible that the little tabs on the catches have been "PO'd" and will not work as advertised. I had to pry off the front plate of my 2000 Symphony Radio to get the radio out.
I have seen NEW stock radios for about $39, so it may not be worth saving the current radio if it is hosed. They also have Symphony II radios, but there are other changes to be made to make it work properly in a pre-CAN bus car. (I could look up some links if you are interested... )
Good luck.
--- Just noticed the dates on the posts. Someone pulled up an old thread. Most likely they have fixed it or sold the car by now. Oh well, maybe someone will get some info from this...
