Cant really see how a gas cap could cause a no start but ive seen stranger things. Althou i have a feeling the problem is withthe purge valve. It is probably sticking open and allow gas vapors to enter the engine during fill up. Try pushing the gas pedal to the floor. See if that helps startup. Also try pinchiing the line for the purge vale and see if that makes the no start problem go away.
