I am about to buy a 08 A6 and I am doing a little research on the car. It seems like there are a lot of owners having problem with the Audi transmission. Is it just a design problem on the last generation of A6 with the 5 speed auto? or is the 08 just as bad. The 08 A6 has a 6 speed transmission, I assume it has been re-designed. Does the 08 6 speed transmission have the same problem as the last generation of Audi A6. I believe most of the problem with the last gen was gear slipping.

 

I have a 2001 A6 and it has gear slippage problems. One thing that is recommended is to replace the fluid, which means a kit, with gaskets and filter. Also special fluid from Audi.

Yes it does. I don't believe there are many similarities between the new Audi transmissions and the older ones, so i believe HarryA6's post is pretty irrelevant (minus the previous generation having problems with slipping).

The new transmission in your new car hasn't had many years to be tested in the real world environment and that's what you get for having a new car. You'll just have to go with it!
