Default Brake Light icon

I was driving my 1999 A6 Wagon today and all of a sudden on the display pops up (Brake Light) and this anyoing beeeeeeep!!!. Later on I check the brake lights and come to find out the rear brake light is not working on the left side.

I pulled out all the light checked the turn signal and rear light and all seem to work. I see a total of 3 lights in the reflector and all are fine. But when I hit the brakes one of the lights appears to be out (but none of the three I had checked). Is there another hidden light in that compartment where the housing for the brake, reverse, and turn signal is?

I can for sure see that a brake light is really out when I have someone hit the brakes.

The brake light can show up if there is any problem with the brake system, or even ABS. It's not only for the brake lamps.

I thought that all three lights are working and you are getting the brake error. You might want to check the socket on the side where you see the problem.

So do any of the lights work on that side.....you need to check if you are getting power to the terminal. If you are then clean the contact points and install a fresh bulb.

Shoot out all the lights, and then replace all bulbs... Sorry,I couldn't resist (Smart donkey, Right).

I had a problem with my rear passengerlights. Sometimes they just stopped working, and it would always some "Make-over" gone bad, that would pull up at the light. After I got stopped by Alice the Goon, from popeye. I just replaced the entire housing, and haven't hadany further problems.

I did resolve the problem, thanks to my "Pit Guy". It cost me a 6-Pack of import, and a good laugh. My "Pit Guy" took a pencil eraser and told me to clean all the contacts. While cleaning the contacts, I found the biggest dead hornet (WTF!!!!) in all Maryland inside the housing?!?!? HITF he got in there, Ssssssssssssssh... I will leave that up to someone WGAS...

The light right rearharness is back in and has been functioning properly. Not sure if it was the cleaning that resolved the problem, or the fear of seeing thatBA hornet...

Thank you... That is my time...God Bless...

If you have cleaned the contacts and replaced the bulb - check the fuses and the ground on the left rear.
