Default Brake pad and rotor installation

Hello yall, I own a 2001 A6 4.2 and I need to get my front brake pads and rotors replaced. The dealer is charging me too much to get them installed and I was wondering If it is an easy job to DIY. I've replaced pads and rotors before on japanese made vehicles but I never worked on and german cars. Is there anything I should know before I attemp to do this myself? I've heard there are sensors that are sonnected to the brakes pads, I bought all the OEM parts so would I just have to unplug the wire and reconnect them with the new part? Thanks for everybodys help in advanced. I just want to be able to save money and do it myself instead of paying for labor.

Default RE: Brake pad and rotor installation

Hi. I hear you about the dealer costs. They quoted me a total of $985 for front and back pads and rotors. That included a little over $400 in labor. I was able to get better parts online and change it my self. It will help a great deal on the back brakes if you have that tool that pushes the caliper in and rotates it at the same time. The tool I bought came with a thin 15mm wrench need to do the job. There are only two bolts holding the front and rear calipers on. I had to tap the rotors with a hammer to get them off. The rear brakes were easier than the front. The first side of the front took me a little while to figure out, but the second took only a quarter of the time. I also painted the calipers black. With the help of the guys here and the right tools, you should be able to do it pretty easy. Good luck. That job definitely isn't worth paying 4 or 5 hundred dollars in labor.
