Default Brake replacement - 4.2 vs 2.7t

I was told by a local Audi dealer that 4.2 brakes are same as a8 and about $2,000 every 40-50k miles versus all other a6 are about $800 when replaced... can anyone validate? I make my decision this week on a 4.2 a local broker bought from Audi Financial (lease return, 02 w/30k miles, all service - broker flys in and only buys in person) or the private party 2.7t, sport, 6spd with only 18kmiles -has been driven a hundred miles +/- every month, and have spoke w/servicing dealer about the car - all good).

Can't wait to get my audi - whichever one I choose this week. And feedback on the brakes greatly appreciated!

Don't know if they are the same as the A8, but there is no way a brake job should cost 2k!

Without trying hard, you can find replacement zimmerman rotors @ $100 and pads @ $80 - $125 depending if you have the 8-pad setup and the type of material you want. If you spent some time on it, I'm sure there are better prices out there.

i'm getting all new ebc drilled & slotted rotors and pads (8 pad set up on the 4.2) done by my local performance shop for about $800 (parts and labor). i think you were quoted prices on parts and labor from the stealership.

great info - thanks for the responses! You are right, quoted from the stealership. Have also learned there is a great newer shop here locally that specializes in Audi and tuning/upgrading and they have some master audi techs. Will likely work with them moving forward.
