Default Changes to A6 by year.

I have been narrowing my search to 2000-2003 A6's. I just came across a clean '04. Any major changes to an '04 that I should be concerned about or just the same as earlier years?

That first link was pretty cool.

Actually, I was talking about any inherent troubles with the car. Like with Subaru, stay the hell away from 99-03's because they will fail a head gasket. Or stay the hell away from 90-94 AWD automatic Subarus.

Nah, the A6's share the same k03 turbos on all the 2.7T's, they all have torque converter failures (TCC mostly) The older models 96-00 have electrical issues that needed small recalls to fix, but they really aren't any different maintenance wise. The interior trims on the older ones are pretty ugly though, like brown or blue interiors....Yuck.

I understand the 03-04 2.7T have larger oil lines to the turbos which supposedly keep them cooler. They also have the exhaust pipes exiting straight out the rear valence through cut-outs, which looks very nice.

I was looking at a 4.2. I have heard of TC failure on these and the Volkswagen Passat W8. What actually fails?

From what I have read on this forum, the owner's wallet is the first thing to fail.

The torque converter clutch sticks or doesn't work at all. Replacement of that can cost you around 16 hours of labor plus about $900 for a new converter if bought thru audi.
