Audiguy, thinking about what you have said, it's actually much better if one needs to replace the ribbon. I shudder to think what they'd have to do to open the instrument cluster.

Mine went on my 99.5 a4 but I had the extended warranty and it was replaced for just the $50 deductible.

does anyone know if this is covered under the audi certified warranty. I'm having the same problem with my 2001 audi a6. I still have the extended warranty though.

I was quoted over $ 900 by a dealer, just for a remanuf. unit. + labour. I couldn't read anything in my display at all. Found a used unit at Skokan in NY, $ 245 with 6 mon. warranty, my dealer installed it, and WoW , I can see the info and play with the trip 'puter.

I don't think the center display is fixable, dead pixels is an "undocumented feature " of lots of Audis.. ;-( []

I'm sure this problem is not limited to Audis. I have an Opel and it too has issues with dead pixels. Perhaps this is one area the Germans havne't quite sorted out yet

it isent the Germans fault. I bet all of your cars have been jump started at one time or another and that really helps kill those. I know this from when I jump started my old A6 2.8 avant. and the screen was almost completly gone...on the other hand. both my A6 2.7T and S4 have never been jumped and the screens are 100%
