Different oil viscosity for the cold?
Ive been running 5w40 or 10w40 syntheticin my car and its about time for another oil change. its pretty cold here in chicago so Im wondering if i should use another oil that will flow better in the cold. I did some searching but I couldnt find anything solid.

RE: Different oil viscosity for the cold?
I suspect you won't find anything really solid, either. There are as many professional opinions on oil as there are brands of oil.
I can't comment directly on your Audi, but.......
5w-40 in the winter is great for the winter unless you live somewhere where the temperatures get into the negative 10's or 20's, where 0w-30 or 40 would be better. 5w is pretty lightweight oil if you've ever played with straight 5W;the stuff flows pretty well when even when it's nasty cold out. I have no scientific basis for this opinion either, but in both of my old cars ('95 and '96 Volvo 850) I've done 5w-40 in the winter and 10w-50in the summer. I live in New Jersey. The '95 has 265k miles on it's mill at this point, so it works at least a little bit!
