door won't latch, any tips?
funny story.
i go to pick up a girl i met the other night for our first date (suggesting a second is on the way, unbelievably) in my 00 red A6 avant. being the gentleman i am, i open the door for her and when i go to close it *paaah* it doesn't latch. i know its cold out and that can have an effect o it, but wondering if this is an inherent audi issue, or an cold weather deal. the BETTER question is how do i fix it?
damn its cold.

Funny story i have an 02 a6 and my friend has an 01 a6, his door stopped working right when it was windy and 6 degrees out. And mine stopped working 2 days before.
All i did to fix both of them was get some white lithium grease and a screwdriver. Excessively spray it into the latch getting it around the latch if possible, use the driver and make it click close then spray more. latch unlatch a bunch of times spray a little more for good luck, wipe off excess.
Seems silly but it is perfect on both cars now.

I vote for the Jealous car thing. Show her a little love by giving her the lubrication mentioned above and you'll live happily everafter or until you begin experencing random electrical pro blems.

Had a similar experience last week. It was the second time the rear trunk did not latch in six months. First time round, WD40 did the trick. This time, it didn't workso I decided to change the latch. I can't keep my car unlocked.
Over the weekend, after opening up the rear interior, and finally getting to the latch, it goes 'click'.... one week later, my rear interior is still rattling, but the lock is still working. I'm still wondering if I should change it?

i had this happen to me a couple weeks back when it was -20*F here with the wind chill. i just opened and shut the door a few times, and after it latched, it was fine. i think it just gets so cold that the grease actually almost gets frozen. never had an issue since, it's just when it gets extremely cold that it does it occasionally, but it's always been below 0*F.

Happened to me a couple times on my 04. Called Audi dealer and he suggested WD40 in the latch. Did that then it happened again. Will have to try the white lithium grease and screwdriver fix. But while we're on the subject of cold cars -- is there a good way of preventing the windows from freezing in the up position? This happens everytime it rains then gets cold and it seems the motors don't even really try to get the window down.
Thanks

Try a bit of rainex on the windows.
The latches freeze because of water.. WD-40 is the best for displacing water.... A bit of preventitive WD-40 is always good. Just remember once you have squeezed the the water out you still need lubrication. White lithium grease is good...
PS don't use KY or vaseline!
