is the engine from the 2006 3.2l A6 the same base as the 2000-2004 A4 tt 3.2l? If the are wouldnt that make the parts workable for both?

Do you look for parts you cannot find right now for the 2006, or you just want to know as a general reference?

Either someone who has/had both a '06 A6 and a '01-'04 A4/TT and is a DIYer can tell you for sure, or someone like Auditech or Kevin who have quite extensive Audi knowledge on lots of these engines.

One other thing you can do is look up illustrations on vagcat.com and compare various part numbers. Sorry I can't help you beyond this simple suggestion.
