Is it possible to switch an engine from a 1996 2.8 A4 FWD into a 1997 A6 2.8 Quattro without extensive modifications

I have a 1994 A6 with a blown transmission and have the opportunity to purchase 1997 A6 that has a bad engine and want to do a swap; Doable or not???
