2002 A6 3.0 92K

Thanks to all for your help on my previous post about when to get the TB changed on a 3.0.

Different issue now ..... EPS light was flickering on and off for the past few days and now it's in a full on state ....no ABS as well...... feels like I'm stopping a 72 BelAir with drum brakes. Really have to lean on the pedal to get it to stop.

I had Akebono pads put on a few years ago up front, but didn't get the rotors changed, which amazes me that I ever got out of College, as the two go hand in hand. Since then I've been living with severe wheel chatter up front on braking.

Any ideas what it could be...... ABS module ? Needs new rotors/pads all the way around ??

Also ...how can you tell if it's ATE or Girling calipers up front ?

Thanks..

ABS and ESP arent constantly active, they only are when you start to loose traction. ESP activates to keep the car on course if it begins to over or understeer and ABS prevents wheel lockup. Basically, they have nothing to do with the pedal feel and the feel of the car when you are braking, unless it is under emergency braking. If your pads have been done, you probably need new rotors, or have your old rotors "turned", warped rotors give that classic shudder when you brake. You should get a VAG COM for esp to find out what the problem is there, if the light was actually flickering like you describe, without any other lights, my guess is a communication problem between your instrument cluster and the esp module.

Have you been inside the wheel lately? The wheel speed sensor will throw both ESP and ABS lights if its gettin funky.
